Chimpanzee Permit Cost in Uganda

Current public Uganda chimpanzee permit prices, what the tariff covers, and how chimp costs differ by location.

By Uganda Guide TeamReviewed by Uganda Guide Editorial DeskUpdated March 28, 2026

Under the Uganda Wildlife Authority public tariff valid July 2024 to June 2026, chimpanzee tracking is listed at USD 250 for foreign non-residents and USD 200 for foreign residents in Kibale National Park, with East African citizens listed at UGX 180,000. Kyambura Gorge carries a different lower public rate. The price matters, but the route and primates logic still matter more than one number.

What the current public tariff says

Uganda Wildlife Authority currently lists chimpanzee tracking in Kibale National Park at USD 250 for foreign non-residents, USD 200 for foreign residents, and UGX 180,000 for East African citizens under the July 2024 to June 2026 tariff window.

The same tariff also shows Kyambura Gorge at a lower public rate, which makes location part of the planning question rather than just a footnote.

Why chimp permit cost should be read with route fit

Chimpanzee cost only becomes meaningful when you know what role chimpanzees play in the itinerary. In some trips Kibale adds real primates depth. In others it stretches the route beyond what the traveler actually wants to feel.

That is why the permit price is useful but incomplete without route purpose.

What the tariff covers and how to use it

The public tariff notes that chimp tracking rates include the guide fee and, in Kibale, include park entrance. That helps when comparing Kibale against other route layers, but travelers should still separate official tariff cost from the wider transport and staging cost of reaching the track.
