The Entebbe-Kampala corridor becomes stressful only when it is treated casually. Flights do not always land at a mentally strong moment, and the road to Kampala is not a neutral piece of empty time.

That means the transfer should be planned around arrival energy and next-day needs, not around a vague assumption that the capital is always the correct first stop.

When Kampala is worth the move

Go to Kampala when the city itself adds value that same night or next morning: business, family, an urban chapter, or a clearly useful staging reason. If those reasons do not exist, Entebbe is often cleaner.

The expressway and its tolls

The Kampala–Entebbe Expressway is the fast road between the airport side and the city, and it is tolled at the Busega, Kajjansi and Mpala plazas. A passage is one direction between any of its entry and exit points. Booths take Uganda shillings or a prepaid Upesi card, and since 25 September 2026 MTN Mobile Money is also accepted in lanes 4 and 5 at all three plazas. A foreign bank card is not a booth payment method.

If someone is driving you, ask whether airport and toll charges are included in the price before you agree it, and carry some shillings either way. The plazas run around the clock; traffic at the Kampala end is the variable that does not.

How to protect the corridor from becoming a route problem

Keep the transfer simple, avoid stacking too many tasks around it, and treat it as part of arrival-day pacing rather than as a chance to prove efficiency. The calmer the first corridor decision is, the better the whole trip usually behaves afterward.
